Start Your Week Strong by Clearing Your Mental Workbench

Mondays can feel like standing at the bottom of a mountain. Before the emails, meetings, deadlines, and demands start piling on, there’s often already a mental load we’re carrying into the week.

That’s why I want to talk about your workbench.

If you’ve been following along with me, you’ll know I often describe the mind like a handbag, a ute tray, or the glovebox of a car, filled with bits and pieces collected over time. Some things are useful. Some are forgotten. Some are just clutter. And when life throws challenges our way, we suddenly need to reach for the right tool to help us cope, adapt, and keep moving forward.

The problem? When the workbench is messy, it’s hard to find what we need.

So before you dive headfirst into the week, give yourself permission to pause.

Watch the video below or continue reading:

Take five or ten minutes for yourself before you begin working your way through everything on your to do list. Use that time to clear your workbench, to clear your mind.

Not by solving every problem or planning the next six months.

Just focus on one small thing that will help set you up for the day.

Maybe it’s reviewing and prioritising your calendar. Maybe it’s checking in with someone you care about. Maybe it’s simply tidying your desk or making space around you feel calmer and more organised.

And if you’re anything like me, five or ten minutes might not feel like enough.

But even a short pause can create clarity. It can clear the path ahead just enough for you to move forward with more focus, calm, and intention.

You don’t need to have the entire week figured out today.

You just need to create enough space to take the next step well.

So this Monday, before you jump in and work your butt off for everyone else, spend a few moments investing in yourself first.

Clear your workbench.

Set yourself up for a great week.
